This position oversees all aspects of the Senior Center operations and facility, food and transportation programs, and staff management. The Senior Services Director is also responsible for financial duties, grant administration, procurement, and budget maintenance for the Senior Services Division. Town of Westwood – Assistant Council on Aging Director

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR – COUNCIL ON AGING

Westwood’s Council on Aging is an engaging and welcoming environment that serves the diverse needs
of Westwood citizens 60 and older, as well as disabled adults. It is a very active facility that
averages nearly 3,000 seniors visits monthly. The Council on Aging is currently seeking a
full-time Assistant Council on Aging Director to help oversee the day-to-day operations of the COA.
The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, compassionate, respectful, and
understand the needs of seniors.

Responsibilities and Duties:
▪ Performs supervisory, administrative, and professional work in developing and implementing
programs and
services at the Westwood COA. Serves as COA Director in their absence.
▪ Responsible for the in-house transportation program; supervises and schedules van drivers as
needed. Resolves issues concerning rides and provides follow-up to any problems. Oversees and
coordinates HESSCO and RSVP transportation programs.
▪ Tracks COA van repairs and directs new van purchases. Ensures COA van drivers are certified
and have attended state-mandated trainings.
▪ Creates, coordinates, and manages day trips, errand days, and shopping days. Plans and
supervises local trips.
▪ Supervises front desk volunteers and other individuals providing services at the COA;
resolves front desk issues.
▪ Serves as lead person with the Facilities Department to manage the building’s needs, repairs,
cleaning, and maintenance, including responding to building emergencies.
▪ Collects and records program revenues.
▪ Serves as liaison to the Westwood Food Pantry and performs related duties as required.
▪ Manages use of facility rooms on a daily basis; maintains evening and weekend schedule and
utilization.
▪ Works closely with the COA Director in budget discussions, long-term strategic planning, and
best practices concerning all resources.
▪ Gathers relevant information for the COA newsletter.
▪ Maintains department’s technology, including copy machines, TVs, monitors, etc. Serves as
contact person for computer-related issues.
▪ Responsible for updating the Town’s Council on Aging webpage.
▪ Represents COA at local events and assists with the coordination of special events.

Qualifications and Experience: Associate degree required; Bachelor’s preferred. Minimum
of 3 years working in gerontology or human services management, preferably in a
municipal setting. Strong interpersonal, marketing, and customer service skills needed.
Thorough knowledge of legal mandates and proficiency in the administration of Senior Center
activities. Ability to handle multiple priorities, problem-solve, and work well with seniors.
MA Class D driver’s license; CPR certification; Serve Safe Trained and Certified; CORI Certified.

Salary and Benefits: Full-time, 40 hours per week with an annual salary range of $65,608 —
$81,936 DOQ. Westwood offers a robust benefits package and generous time off allowances.

Recommended Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in gerontology, human services or a related field of endeavor is preferred.
Experience:
Over 3 years administrative experience in providing elder services and programs.
Hourly Wage Range: $27.15 – $35.61, commensurate with experience.
Hours: 19 Week Maximum. Hours are flexible to meet the needs of the department.
