MCOA Website and Social Media Posting Policy

The Massachusetts Association of Councils on Aging (MCOA) uses its website, e-newsletter, and social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Threads, Bluesky,LinkedIn, MyMCOA) to share information aligned with its mission: “Building strategic partnerships to educate, empower, and advocate for professionals who work with older adults.”

These platforms serve both members and the public by sharing news, resources, advocacy alerts, training opportunities, photos, and community highlights.

Content Submissions

Materials for posting may come from MCOA staff, members, or partners and must fit the following categories:

  • Job postings
  • Information requests
  • Advocacy alerts
  • Announcements
  • Grant opportunities
  • Events, education, training, and conferences
  • Links to partners, affiliates, or government agencies

Revenue-generating content (e.g., advertisements, sponsored links) must be reviewed by the Executive Director, Assistant Director, and Finance Committee.

Items outside the listed categories will be evaluated by MCOA leadership for relevance and appropriateness before being posted.

Content Management

All content is managed by the Digital and Marketing Communications Manager or designated staff. MCOA reserves editorial rights over all submissions and retains the right to modify or decline content.

Social Media Use and Guidelines

Social media platforms are public forums intended to create a welcoming and informative environment. MCOA monitors all posts for relevance and respectful dialogue.

The following content is not allowed and will be removed:

  • Obscene, racist, or abusive content
  • Personal attacks, threats, or libel
  • Plagiarized or copyright-infringing material
  • Private or personal information without consent
  • Off-topic comments or spam
  • Commercial advertising or political endorsements
  • Inappropriate or unauthorized images

MCOA is not liable for user-generated content and does not endorse external posts or links. MCOA may reproduce comments for marketing or public relations purposes with written permission or by anonymizing the content.

Participation in MCOA-sponsored online platforms is voluntary. MCOA assumes no responsibility for interactions that occur as a result of engagement through its online services.

This policy will be reviewed periodically and may be updated or discontinued without notice.
