The Massachusetts Councils on Aging (MCOA) recently met with Ramsey Alwin, President and CEO of the National Council on Aging (NCOA), to strengthen collaboration and showcase the innovative work taking place in Councils on Aging and senior centers across Massachusetts.

The discussion centered on the impact of changing federal policies and funding reductions on older adults, caregivers, and the community-based organizations that serve them. MCOA highlighted the critical role that senior centers play in helping older adults remain healthy, engaged, and independent while advancing age-friendly and dementia-friendly initiatives, reducing social isolation, and serving as trusted community hubs for connection and support.

MCOA also shared its ongoing work to modernize senior centers across the Commonwealth, ensuring they are welcoming, accessible, and inclusive spaces that reflect the evolving needs, interests, and expectations of today’s older adults.

The meeting reinforced the importance of strong partnerships at the local, state, and national levels. Together, MCOA and NCOA remain committed to advancing innovative solutions, advocating for policies that support older adults and caregivers, and strengthening the network of organizations dedicated to helping people age well in their communities.
